Creating an entryway

Page 1 of 1
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for creating an entryway?? Our front door opens straight in to our lounge room, and it's one thing I really hate about our house. Any suggestions/ideas for creating an entry way?? Pictures would be great. We have tiles to separate the area from the rest of the carpeted area, but I'm wanting something more substantial, like a physical barrier.... Maybe a wall or shelf?????
Can you post a pic of the entry?

My front entry opens up pretty much straight into my lounge area. I created a sideboard space.
Maybe if you could post a photo or a floor plan?

It depends on how much space you can sacrifice. You really only need a screen placed to the open side, and it doesn't need to be solid as the angle when viewed from the door will obscure the view. this used to be fairly common before separate entrances became more standard. If you have more room to work with then you could do something like a shelving unit or bookcase but they can look a bit cumbersome or overwhelming unless you have a fair bit of space. whatever you do I would avoid anything solid, it's not necessary and can make the entrance feel really boxed in.
Thanks for the replies, here are some photos of the floor plan, and the entry as it is now;

I see what you mean, if it were me, id be temped to make a ledge where you have that hutch cupboard thing. So that when you open the door, there is a ledge there in front of you to put your keys down and hang a coat over. It could be very easily made out of pine and gyprock with a white painted timber slab on top, anchored to the slab through those tiles and edged with skirting to match the existing skirting.
Yep agree, I would put some sort of partition up to shield the view of the door and even hang a pic on the entry facing side. I think that is should be a very easy fix. Height would be up to you, for me I would make it a little higher than door height and possibly about 300mm back from the door when it is open so you can have a coat rack there....
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm thinking something full height, but worried how work around the architrave, carpet etc... Might be an expensive venture?
architrave? if by that you mean the cornice, simple, just cut into it at 45 degrees and do a full height gyprock wall on pine frame followed by matching cornice around new wall.
Not a ridiculously expensive venture. Just need to find someone wanting the work.
Google flatpack cupboards you could build a book case or cupboard with the back of the bookcase or cupboard facing the door. Or alternatively you could put up a module wall like the ones they use to build offices within a work place I think they are called modular walls
