Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 28, 2016 10:21 pm Hiya Everyone, Thought I'd share our very super slow renovation progress, yep the classic. I'm an interior/ building designer and my husbands a carpenter (but is site supervisor for commercial jobs). We thought we'd buy a house, use our skills together, renovate for profit. This will be fun we thought. Oh by the way we have an exuberant 4 yr old boy + a 2yr old. Lets just say the 6 month renovation plan is out the window, in march we celebrate our 1st year in the home Our budget for the kitchen is 10k, which the cabinets are from ikea and hubby has installed it all. This also includes a small scullery with underbench cabinets and shelves above. This is a Picture was taken in September '15 ~ when hubby installed the timber benchtop. I do love the colour of the timber here, but as you'll see after the oiling it did loose that ashe look to it which I loved. Re: Our Kitchen Renovation ~ progress so far 2Feb 28, 2016 10:32 pm Renovation Progress ~ February So were nearly finished.. Unfortunately our risk didn't pay off, with the timber benchtop, as over time the timber has moved and warped ~ even though it was still high grade. We had a lot of humid and hot temperatures, could be that. anywho lucky it wasn't a clients job, I think we only spent $200 - $300 for the timber (not including hubby's time though) + Install the top fascia boards above the overhead cupboards + Install GPO (hidden) for dishwasher + Install end timber pieces to front bench to complete. + Install the scullery (wall cavity) sliding door + Install the window + Create a feature storage unit above the fridge (still deciding) + Paint walls final coat of white. I think the kitchen is very glossy and shiny, and modern with a nice teak look about it. Those slats/panels under the bench take it back 30 years tho :/. Go back to Ikea and get a big glossy white cover panel, they come in huge sizes. Stick one in place of those slats. They are cheap as chips. That way you need no skirting there, and it looks so neat and clean. Put some kicker panels on the cabinetry under the oven. (im sure you are already doing that or planning to judging on the plastic legs.) What are your plans for covering the ducting for that rangehood. I think one large curved piece of brushed stainless steel from one side of the cabinet to the other touching the wall at both sides, to match the oven. Re: Our Kitchen Renovation ~ progress so far 4Mar 02, 2016 5:13 pm Hi Rebuilder86, Thanks for your opinion. Maybe I should have mentioned I'm going for a more coastal / scandi interior look. We are doing the external front elevation bay window in weatherboards ~ so then the slatted feature panel to the kitchen connects with the external. I guess it depends where you grew up and what style housing was happening in the 70s. For me (I'm from WA) those creamy brown face bricks scream 70's to me. But guess what facebrick is big again. um yep I agree those cover panels from ikea look cheap as chips Yep kicker panels still need to be installed. Ducting to the rangehood top kicker: I'm pretty sure we're just going with a white kicker panel here. Stainless steel could look good if I was going to make that a feature, but I want the top kicker panel to blend in. The OP has gone The latch and striker are definitely not aligned but there was no point trying to help the OP understand that. Hence the reason they are no longer with us. 12 5514 Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4756 I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home.
