Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 28, 2016 10:24 am Hi, I recently purchased my first home in the Dandenong Mountains Vic. There are 2 rooms and a bathroom below the main part of the house which has a separate entrance. I am thinking of adding a small kitchen and turning this area into a self contained apartment to rent out. I think the room may have originally been a garage, it has double brick walls, with the internal brick exposed. Though carpet and internal walls have been added, and windows on the eastern side. The area is currently very cold, even in the middle of summer. Just wondering what the best way of going about insulating the walls would be? What types of products should I look into? I don't like the look of the exposed brick in there so I am very keen to get rid of it. Also, the floor upstairs is wooden, so it is quite loud downstairs when anyone is walking about. I'm not sure if it is worth doing something about this, but it would annoy me if I were living down there. Any ideas about how I should approach this? I am very new to DIY reno, but excited to learn. I am willing to hire in some professionals if need be but trying to keep down costs as much as possible. Thanks Building Standards; Getting It Right!
