Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 12, 2016 8:34 pm Hi folks, I recently started building a ground-level deck. I've got the foundations down and am ready to put the decking on, but I'm worried about irrigation. My main concern is along the wall. I'm worried water may seep under the slab and undermine the soil there, risking a crack in the slab [and potentially serious damage to our <1 year old house]. To address this, I dug a trench about 15cm from the slab, put in a 65mm ag pipe on soil, compacted just a little up the side [roughly 1/3 of the way] with soil, then put 14mm gravel on top. The pipe then runs out onto our back yard, where it runs off down the driveway away from the house. There's a photo of this below. Is this sufficient to prevent water undermining the soil under our slab? I should note, the only water that will go there is rain falling over the deck area, the area all around the house is otherwise prepared to drain water away from the slab. My other concern is with the water elsewhere under the deck. I have three other trenches running along the lengths of the three long bearers. The idea is water will flow down these trenches out and away from the deck. These work okay for now, and in the mild rain we've had the water mostly drains away and dries up pretty quick. but I'm worried that once I put the decking on, it'll be a narrow space under the joists, and the small pools of water may not evaporate well. I've taken two photos of the situation to give an idea of what I've done. Can anyone give me some advice please? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6vIWz ... sp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6vIWz ... sp=sharing Hi all I am looking to run a water line under my concrete footpath which is directly next to my home, was seeing if this is possible without cutting the entire section… 0 20188 Hi Brainstrust, I had a go at creating my own irrigation plan, keen to get some feedback. It will be run from one 750-800W pump, off 2* 5000L rain tanks. Each zone… 0 22771 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16156 |
