I bought an old house a year ago that needs pretty much everything done to it... At the moment I have limited funds for renovations so it's going to be years until I can do it all. The house has character you won't find in a new build.
I'm trying to wrap my head around how people normally tackle renos, and I will be checking in with the professionals when it comes time, but in the meantime I want to understand the process.
Things that need to be done:
Re-stump and raise house
New roof & gutters
New raised deck out the back (no deck currently)
New raised porch out the front (no porch currently)
New staircases back and front
New windows
Build in living area/bedrooms etc underneath
Internally, pretty much everything also needs doing - new walls (I want to remove all asbestos sheeting), move/build some walls, new bathrooms, new kitchen...
How do you work out what needs to be done first? e.g. The deck will have a roof, so does it make sense to replace the roof on the house at the same time as I do the deck? It will be colorbond.
Are there any tips you can give about how to make the whole thing more cost-effective?
