Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 30, 2015 10:08 pm Hi All, consider this an intro if you will. My fiance and I purchased our first home in June this year (after approx 2yrs of saving/ dealing with banks). It's a 4x1 on a 800sqm corner block approx 40min from the Perth CBD. We've had a bit of a crash-course in home ownership and renovating when we undertook our first renovations with a few set backs and underlying problems. I'll use this thread to post some before/ afters and keep an ongoing blog of work we are doing to the house and yard. I'm super excited to join this forum and have plenty of questions, gardening and lawns are a hobby of mine and I'm hoping to bring this house back up into tip-top shape. Here's a few pics to get the ball rolling . Kitchen & Dining B/A Before we moved into the home we re-tiled the entire house with the exception of the 4 bedrooms (carpet). New paint on the walls, ceiling and skirts. Its to avoid the need for waterproofing. Its not the owner, its the builder and they did it to code. Now things have changed. Every pre 85 house I've worked on has the same thing, loose sandy cement screed and tile on top. Its actually brilliant, water that gets past the tiles just disappears into the sand under the slab. It would have been 100% foolproof if they had thought about waterproofing the walls, which they didn't, which is now 100% of the reason us un-wealthy people in Perth are forced to renovate our bathrooms. So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point.
