Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 29, 2015 1:26 pm I am looking at purchasing a post-war weatherboard house in QLD with a GFA of ~100m2. I am planning to do fairly extensive renovations, including raising, moving some walls, adding a bedroom, redoing the kitchen and bathroom etc. Currently the ceilings are only 2.4m. I was wondering if there is any feasible way to raise the ceiling height (probably to 2.7m), and if so what kind of cost bracket I may be looking at? Re: Raising ceiling height when renovatingg 2Nov 29, 2015 1:30 pm You would have to remove the roof tiles or metal roof sheeting plus all the roof framing and build a 300mm nib wall to all stud frames then re-frame and re-tile the roof. A very expensive exercise for not a lot of gain. Cladding to the outside of the nib walls would need to be done as per the existing while lining the inside with plasterboard to match existing would need to be done as would all your ceilings. I'd say North of $50 at least. Stewie Re: Raising ceiling height when renovatingg 5Dec 02, 2015 5:38 pm Unless you are planning to spend the rest of your life there, you'd be crazy to do it. You'll never recover the cost upon sale. PLenty of post wars up to late 70s have 2700mm ceilings , buy one if it is so important. Unless the room is for storage then it's non compliant BCA V2 2019 S3 P3.8 You have 2 options 1. The builder deconstructs the section and rebuilds as per plan /… 7 10683 ok thanks - yes was wondering if that should have been listed as Option Three! 2 7741 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
