These are caps that cover the screw holes. You need to remove the caps and you can then screw straight to the side of the bunk. Holding the bottom will be the challenge. The pictures don't make it clear if there is anything at the bottom. If you post some additional photos I can help with options. Normally those caps come out (you have to prise them out with a screwdriver) and then you screw them on. You would only use F clamps if it was temporary.
