Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Oct 26, 2015 3:20 am Hi all, Looking for some advice on both the legal requirements and practical requirements for hanging my range hood. I am coming up with two conflicting bits of information regarding the building code. I'm hanging the hood above a gas hob. Some places state 600mm above the hob, others 650mm. Forums also lead to the conflict, can anyone link me to the actual regulation so I can see which it is? I mainly ask because the manual for my hood states it should be hung 600mm above both gas and electric. Would hanging it higher affect its efficiency? I would prefer it 650mm or even 700mm high just personally, regardless of code but worry it would not be as effective. Thanks for any advice/ help with this. Re: Range hood height 2Oct 27, 2015 2:59 pm My rangehood is 800mm high. We installed higher at the suggestion of the kitchen installer. Glad we did this. I am not a tall person but I have hit my head on a lot of range hoods in the past. I have an induction cooktop and have not noticed it is affecting the range hood functionality. Perhaps juts ensure it is powerful enough Re: Range hood height 3Oct 27, 2015 7:08 pm Thanks dolphinblu, I held it at the 600mm & 650mm heights last night and my head is almost above the hood! I'm thinking I'll do exactly the same and go with 800mm seems the best height. I'm hoping it'll be strong enough Re: Range hood height 4Oct 28, 2015 7:35 am Rts.empire Hi all, Looking for some advice on both the legal requirements and practical requirements for hanging my range hood. It can be state based requirement for vic it's 600mm for electric and 650mm for gas Re: Range hood height 6Oct 29, 2015 1:00 am Thanks Pumba, I've rung the manufacture themselves now and they're going to call me back with a maximum hight to mount it as per their technicians. Unless the room is for storage then it's non compliant BCA V2 2019 S3 P3.8 You have 2 options 1. The builder deconstructs the section and rebuilds as per plan /… 7 10657 ok thanks - yes was wondering if that should have been listed as Option Three! 2 7712 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
