Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 25, 2015 2:09 pm Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and in need of some advice from fellow renovators! We've just bought a home and there are slate tiles that we're planning on removing and I was wondering if we should remove the floors then paint or the other way around? Someone told me we should paint first as the dust and debris from lifting the floors will make painting after a bigger hassle especially with the cheap paint that is currently on the wall. But I don't know if this is right idea....advice greatly appreciated!! But if you are afraid of spending too much time preparing the walls before painting, then you can remove the tile before painting the walls. Re: Removing Slate Tiles/Painting Advice 3Sep 05, 2015 8:44 am If you are replacing the tiles with something else (carpet, floating floor etc) then I recommend remove, paint, replace flooring. Make the mess first with potential wall damage, paint while not worried about dripping paint on your nice new floor then flooring in which tends not to be too messy. To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even. To install most types of… 1 413 I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 3342 just pull up the slate. If you go over the top, your tiles would not have an even surface to be glued to. Im no tiler, but i can imagine a couple of things being an issue… 1 349 |
