We want to install new power points and avoid as much chasing into the walls as possible for wiring. Wiring would be in conduit underneath floors (no false ceilings, rendered brick walls). Threshold to slab is approx 40mm. So with an existing slab could we go moisture barrier, 5mm acoustic underlay, 15mm ply and 19mm solid boards, cutting a 20mm gap cut between boards for conduit? If no acoustic treatment necessary I suppose we could go 19mm ply. Would a batten installation be possible? Alternatively, can you run conduit behind cornices and chase down to GPOs? Re: New timber flooring/electrical - advice needed 2Aug 21, 2015 11:04 am If this is a second storey or higher unit you won't be allowed to install timber flooring ( or any other hard surface like tiles ) on your floors except your bathroom and laundry under the Strata laws due to the transmission of excess noise through the floor to the unit below you. The only way around this is to install sound deadening devices like resilient mounts and battens etc. Even if it is a ground floor unit some blocks still won't allow you to do this anyway. Check with your strata manager first. Stewie Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
