Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 02, 2015 9:27 am I'd like to hear from anyone out there in homeoneland who has had a new bathroom installed where there wasn't one. How much did it cost you? Are you happy with it? I have a brick veneer home on concrete stumps and polished floorboards so to my uneducated mind installing new plumbing wouldn't be too much of an issue. The room I want to convert adjoins the master. It is about 3.3m square so could also accommodate a WIR. Dreaming is great but I have no idea what I'm up for cost-wise and would welcome your experience. Re: Converting bedroom to bathroom - piece of string questio 2Aug 02, 2015 8:41 pm We recently did this, however I can't help with the costs as our conversion of a bedroom to a bathroom was part of a much larger reno. Our room also had polished floorboards and the house is on piers. Plumbing brought up through the floor. One piece of advice- lower the floor level to match the room beside. If you don't do this you will have a 'step up' into the bathroom. This step is a result of tiles etc. We did lower the floor Loving our new family bathroom Good luck. Re: Converting bedroom to bathroom - piece of string questio 3Aug 02, 2015 8:54 pm I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your new bathroom. I too was going to make it part of a larger extension and reno project but am wary of a cost blowout so I'd rather do it in smaller, more controlled stages. Also the bathroom conversion would be an "if we have any money left!" kind of thing. Thanks also for the reminder about the floor step-down. Wouldn't have thought of that until it was too late. That depends on a few other things like how close is the existing sewer and H & C water to connect to as well, floor to ceiling tiling etc. It will cost you a bit to lower the floor 40 - 50mm too. Stewie Re: Converting bedroom to bathroom - piece of string questio 5Aug 03, 2015 12:08 pm Thanks Stewie. I had thought to allow about $30k all up so I'm pleased to hear your estimate. On another note, the step-down concerns me because I was going to put down plank flooring in the rest of the house at some stage. Trying to match existing boards in the new extension and repolishing the old ones throughout would be a massive, toxic inconvenience that I just ain't prepared to live through again. start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 19593 2 9458 If I hire a contractor to convert a window to a sliding door will I need to show them Council approval paperwork?
