Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 12, 2015 9:27 pm We have 2 older style sliding doors with the diamond security screen and wanted to upgrade to bifold doors to let more natural air flow in and to open up the area leading to the patio. One door is 2121 x 2100 and other is 3160 x 2100. We got a quote for both doors to be installed in wood and it was $13,000.00. Everywhere I have read states that aluminium is a cheaper and lower maintenance option so after consideration we thought that would be a better way to go but the quoting person said it was more expensive for aluminium and gave a quote of $16,000.00 for both doors installed. Considering I could get a brand new small car for the same price as 2 doors, I am wondering if this is a typical price and is it correct that wood bifold doors are the cheaper choice over aluminium? Am starting to feel a bit disheartened over something I was quite excited about :/ Re: Bi-fold doors help please! 2Jul 13, 2015 12:07 am I think you need to get more quotes, he is taking you for a ride. For example, these guys from Sydney http://fenestradwg.com.au sell aluminium bifolds online and your two doors will cost less than $6000. I got a quote from them and they can deliver interstate. Surely you can find someone to install for $2K or so. Re: Bi-fold doors help please! 3Jul 15, 2015 9:28 pm Hi stormycat, if your location is in Melbourne I would recommend this http://www.stockwindows.com.au I think they're the direct supplier of all windows and glass doors. We had the same experience when we were just planning to enclose our alfresco and the first company we have spoken to quoted us $27k so I thought we were losing hope but we kept searching online until we found this company. Our alfresco is 6.5 x 3.7 meters and 9 feet ceiling height and there are two sides that need enclosure. We paid less than $8k in total including all the materials, delivery and installation. One side is a fixed glass wall 6.5 meter length with 1 awning window and the other side is stackable sliding doors which is 3.7 meter length. Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 3622 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
