Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 19, 2015 11:32 am Hi All, I am currently building our first home SOR and it is currently at lock up stage. The build is currently on a small block, with a single entry door (900mm) for both the front door and the door to the back via the garage. The access on the side of the house is also quite small due to the meter box etc being placed there. We requested for a variation to the build to widen our front door (1200mm) but was it was flat-out refused by the builder on several occaisions prior to actual construction of the house. We are now planning on doing this once we have handover and was wondering whether anyone might have any recommendations? I'm not exactly sure who we'd need but the job will include knocking out bricks and installation of the 1200mm door. Any suggestions/information most welcome!!!! If its a larger builder who does do customization then the issue may have been structural related. Closeup of the door in the plans please! It's with a large builder - no reason was actually given except 'at this stage of construction, no changes are allowed' (request was made after slab down, before bricking started) Also - looks like it's not a 900mm, but a 820mm door Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74269 Re: Entry Door Widening Recommendations 4Jun 20, 2015 9:45 am The pre-fab frame may have already been ordered and on the way, so that's why I assumed they rejected your change out of hand. If their builds are done with pre-fab frames it's a fair bit of work that they won't want to do to change it. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. If this was the case, knowing it would have been good rather than running with their generic response! Not quite sure what good it was to them to not be open about the reasons for rejecting the change!
