Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 07, 2015 3:46 pm Hi all, I am going to be installing my laminate flooring this weekend and just had the following questions: 1: When removing the old carpets, I noticed one or two areas which have white deposits. Is this serious and would it need to be treated? (I will send some pics shortly) 2: Do you need to test and treat your slab for moisture? 3: Should you fill little holes in your slab? Kind regards, Robbie Re: Laying Laminate Flooring - slab preparation 3Apr 12, 2015 9:50 pm Laminate flooring needs to be laid on top of a moisture barrier, this is usually just like the black plastic that might be laid under a slab. It is simply loose laid and joins taped. There is also a foam underlay aswell. Some brands have the foam and plastic stuck together as one product. As for the existing moisture, I think you should be worried in general what is causing it. You could protect your flooring to a degree, but what about the wall frame bottom plate, gyprock, skirting boards? Is it only dry because it hasn't rained for a bit or no one has used a shower on the other side of the wall for a bit? I would also investigate the cause of the damp and comfort yourself that it isn't going to become wet again for any reason Re: Laying Laminate Flooring - slab preparation 4Apr 14, 2015 10:59 am Thanks for the reply.. Both the areas where there residue area pretty dry. I bought the house which is 30 years old, so there could have been previous issues, which were fixed. That said, the house has been through some heavy rain (last week), and all water outlets (showers, baths) have been heavily used and there have beem no signs of water leaking into the room. Re: Laying Laminate Flooring - slab preparation 5May 08, 2015 8:11 pm Getting white deposits after removing old carpets is quite normal. I think you should first fill in the holes that are there in the slab because flooring lamination on uneven slab will not look good and find out if there is any area from where, moisture can enter your slab & treat it accordingly to avoid patches that may occur on your slab in future due to moisture. Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down.
