Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 16, 2015 9:06 pm Need a bit of advice as to what my best next step should be. We are in the planning stages of our reno. 3 extra bedrooms, extend WIR, extend ensuite, extra garage underneath and revised kitchen. Now we have a set of drawings from the architect who we have engaged. And we are very happy with what we have done. I understand that the next step is to engage the town planner (we have to go through a full DA) but before we do that I am trying to get a rough ballpark figure of what the current drawings would cost to build. My thinking is that if it way over our budget, then we need to amend our plan before going through town planner, certifier DA, engineer and then get final quotes from builders only to find out it is way too late and we have spent all this money to get to that point. I have a builder friend who is helping me along the way, but I think that he may be feeling pressured a bit. Should I invest in an estimator or quantity surveyor at this point? How much would they roughly charge and is it worth it? My main concern is that the architect has fit in everything that we have wanted in a home and I'm worried that it is beyond our means. Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement. We have an old 50's house with masonite everywhere and nails popping out, warping, rusted etc.… 0 2981 Following these simple steps will help you mitigate unwanted costs, have your expectations met and give… 0 4040 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 10669 |
