Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 15, 2015 11:57 am Hi all I have a ceiling leak in my kitchen, directly below an old flue that extends up from the exterior surface of the roof. The flue used to connect to a space heater below (now removed) I have sealed every identifiable edge around the flue and adjacent roofing sheets, but still there is water coming through. Not a huge amount but enough to grow mould on the ceiling. I don't want to remove the flue, because it is made of asbestos As I hope you can see from the attached photo (in pdf file) some water is pooling uphill of the flue, but this area is well sealed. Is it possible that the water backing up here is seeping through the sealant, if it was the wrong kind of sealant? http://mande.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/DSCN7119.pdf Re: Puzzling roof leak 2Feb 15, 2015 1:12 pm My question is "is it water coming through, or condensation?" Re: Puzzling roof leak 3Feb 15, 2015 7:33 pm This might seem like a trick question, but it's not.... does it only leak when it rains? Like Bashworth says, could be condensation. Warm air from the ceiling space comes into contact with cool, dense (moisture-laden) outside air in the flue, moisture condenses on the inside of the flue pipe, drips down onto ceiling... Try sealing the flue itself (the outlet at the top). See if that helps. But I will check to see if any gaps remain, where moist air may enter The problem re-appeared in the last day or so, after a particularly heavy and long downpour of rain overnight If you make sure all taps inside and out are turned off, what does the water meter show if you leave it for a while. 2 14703 Hi all, I am hoping someone has some ideas as to what is causing my bathroom leak. The leaking appears to mainly happen when we turn the sink basins on. It takes a while… 0 3763 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit?
