If the attachments are less than 4m, you can avoid having to get an engineers report and can use rafter strengthening brackets or timber stiffeners at max 1200 centres. The length of the brackets/stiffeners depends on the eaves/wall but generally 1500 would be sufficient. I know this doesn't answer all of your questions but I hope it helps!
