Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Dec 30, 2014 2:27 pm Hi all, I am about to renovate an old Perth double-brick home (1950s), which will include replacing the roof tiles with a colourbond roof and cladding the house with timber, painted 'surf mist'. Am going for the cottage look you might find in Perth in Subiaco or parts of Victoria Park. I am thinking of going with the Basalt colourbond colour for the roof - to get contrast between a darkish roof and light walls - though as it's a new Colourbond colour, there aren't many around to look at. Any thoughts out there as to whether this would go with 'surf mist' white?? Any help appreciated. Re: Basalt colourbond roof 2Dec 30, 2014 2:36 pm We have merino windows and downpipe a with basalt roof. Surf mist would be very nice with basalt roof. Re: Basalt colourbond roof 4Dec 30, 2014 5:18 pm Basalt and surfmist are an excellent contrast of colours in tonal value. I see blue in the Basalt, is this what you want? Also, what type of roofline are you having and colour windows? I have the Colourbond range here in my office, its looks to have a blue tint to it and is next to the Ironstone in colour which is quite blue. Best you go get a sample. Basalt appeared to me, anyway, to strip most of the tints out, though if it has a slight blue tint that would be fine. My neighbour has Ironstone; it looks great, very rustic despite it being brand new; though was thinking given the Perth heat I might go a shade or two lighter...though not too light. Re: Basalt colourbond roof 11Jan 03, 2015 8:15 pm Crazyk Michelle Looks like Windspray to me..... Nope it's definitely Basalt. It can throw bluish but then it also looks grey, just depends on the light. Wallaby is nice also. Agreed!! Re: Basalt colourbond roof 12Oct 22, 2015 7:32 pm Those with a basalt roof, are you happy with the colour? Does it look how you expected? I've read mixed things about it having a blue tinge but then read 'it's a true grey'. Ive driven past a house with it once which was fully in sun and the roof looked very light in colour. I just don't want our regret our choice! Cheers. The painted render is a bit chalky to the touch. To prepare the surface for best adhesion, what would you recommend?
