Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement Re: plz advise - Kitchen redesign query (putting offer) 5Dec 21, 2014 9:27 pm Jillch Will it be cheaper to keep the original structure and design but putting a stone benchtop and changing the cabinet doors, also to put few more cupboards on the top at the walls to increase storage... Not by much - the cabinets themselves are a relatively small cost and the extra cost of fitting new cabinet doors to old cabinets which are probably out of square and so on tends to wipe out any saving. Quote: I have a couple of ideas to increase the storage space: i) adding cabinets on other side of the slab the one which is perpendicular to the wall ii) putting few more cupboards on the top at the walls (where the phone is in the pic) Removing walls etc will be very expensive I guess ...??? You need to be very careful not to intrude into the meals space, as you don't have any other meals/dining space! A cramped space there is not worth it - honest! You could add some wall cabinets where the phone is but I probably wouldn't bother... that spot is actually pretty hard to get into. Given a relatively limited budget, here is what I would do: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Move the cooktop along a bit so it isn't hard into the corner (and in front of the door to the laundry); as part of this, I would also put in an undermount sink to maximise the bench space. Add an overhead cupboard with a pull-out rangehood above the cooktop and high cupboard next to it - it's hard to tell exactly if you have enough room for this! If needed, reduce the return section (the bit perpendicular to the wall) to allow the fridge to face that section, then put cupboards beside the fridge space. Either a cabinet with a small bench section and a high cabinet above, or a full height cabinet. And then beside that, do a wall-oven/microwave tower. Redo the pantry door to match the rest - depending on the existing shelves, consider options like internal drawers to maximise the accessible space inside it. And replace as many cupboards as possible with drawers. You get much more usable storage. Land settled May '14.
