Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 17, 2014 12:42 pm Hello, I have looked at various gutter mesh systems . I live in an area with many trees , gum trees and jaracanda . gutters fill up fairly quickly. Not only leaves, but also small gumnuts My tiles are old Marseille in terracotta. The gutters are high front ones. I have decided that I can go up the roof once in a while, such as once in a year I also need to make sure that the fascia is never wet. So in spite of it's imperfection, i thought that if I can fold a standard whites mesh ( http://www.bunnings.com.au/whites-outdo ... h_p3040312) in a manner that it slots in the lip of the gutter at the front, goes as high as necessary at the tile, then goes down and up again , the leaves will stay against the tile and some gumnuts might still pass through, which is fine I think as they will be washed out when it rains The mesh folded in that manner needs to be held up against the tile ; so I need something that sits inside the gutter to hold it up. I thought about using bar chairs in plastic so that the wire does not sag , but I feel that it might block some of the debris . I therefore need something that will be like an arch to leave the passage clear inside the gutter , yet pushes up the wire mesh. Anyone has an idea what I can use? Are there any plastic or metal arches that can be found ready made for this purpose? Thanks Re: gutter mesh holder 2Nov 17, 2014 3:21 pm That sort of mesh is terrible stuff. You could try following your basic plan but use the Fielders WaterGate zinc mesh. It is sold in the gardening section at Bunnings and comes in an 8 x 1.25 metre pack for around $40. It fits better with internal gutter clips, otherwise you need supports. http://www.fielders.com.au/pdf/FIEL_285 ... -s_P22.pdf jln Are there any plastic or metal arches that can be found ready made for this purpose? Re: gutter mesh holder 3Nov 17, 2014 4:14 pm Thank you for your reply It seems the one fielders sells need to be ordered with the step already folded or may come with a standard fold ; I have 80 meters to do and not all the same distance from lip of gutter to tile. Actually , there are significant variations I have found someone in NSW that sells rolls of aluminium mesh for gutter guards 200 mm wide , 0.6 mm thick and with smaller holes in the mesh , however I am not sure it can be folded at home as easily as the basic "terrible" chicken cage mesh . I use a couple of plank edges to fold the chicken wire mesh and a simple hammer In looking at the Fielders product , I realize that they have something called "support block" for gutters with external brackets. may have to check that it is available at Bunnings ... Any experience with folding aluminium neatly without a proper brake bender? Thanks Re: gutter mesh holder 4Nov 17, 2014 6:19 pm The only WaterGate one that I have seen comes with the fold. jln Any experience with folding aluminium neatly without a proper brake bender?
