With two installers and myself working flat out, it was a marathon effort to get the whole floor laid in just 12 hours. We had a few bumps (or should that be dips?) in the road with the sub-floor being anything but level. But after a few minor repairs the results are quite flawless considering the age of our home. It's not quite exactly the look we were after, it's just a tad darker with a few too many knots than we'd prefer but the overall finish looks fantastic. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The reason for the lack of progress is that we wanted to run the floorboards underneath the kitchen cabinetry to avoid having to use scotia to create a more seamless look. This also meant that benchtops couldn't be installed until after the floorboards had been done. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Considering it's taken almost two full months just to get the flooring down, Attwells Kitchens arrived the very next morning (on a public holiday no less) to fit and install the remaining kitchen panels so we can organise our new Caesarstone benchtops! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Considering I was waiting for the new Caesarstone designs to arrive it hasn't delayed the renovations by too much. We'd decided to use Calacatta Nuvo on the island and our new Raw Concrete design for the benchtop. The colour of the Raw Concrete perfectly picks up the veining in Calacatta Nuvo so it should create a beautiful contrast. We also got a bit excited and picked up a sample of our skirting board to see how it would look. We've chose a very tall colonial design which should suit the style of the home and the tall ceilings. We can't wait either, it's been almost 6 months now without a fully functioning kitchen - or a dishwasher for that matter! Re: Our home renovation with a Caesarstone twist! 25Apr 30, 2015 11:07 am ![]() Floors and everything looking very schmick! How much are you saving on the stone with your 'employee discount'? Thank you! We do get a generous employee discount, although I've always thought our prices were quite reasonable anyway. The biggest cost is in the fabrication in which case I'll be paying the same price as anyone else. We are so excited too, so close to having a proper working kitchen again! We met with the Form-Rite last week who will be doing the fabrication. Our plan is to film the entire process from start to finish which should be very interesting as Form-Rite have quite an impressive production process. The overhead cabinets are actually Natural Oak by Polytec which we've chosen to run with horizontal grain. We love it, just enough colour and texture to break up what would other be just a plain white kitchen. We just know its about 20% more but how much would a standard caesarstone cost per metre or square metre of bench space? Re: Our home renovation with a Caesarstone twist! 29May 26, 2015 2:04 pm 20% more? I thought it was more like 200% more for the Calacatta over a standard colour. I am very keen to see the finished pictures of the Calacatta and the Raw concrete bench tops. I've gone into a bit more detail on pricing in answer to your question in the other thread here. ![]() I am very keen to see the finished pictures of the Calacatta and the Raw concrete bench tops. Me too! Hoping that it's all finished by the end of next week! Re: Our home renovation with a Caesarstone twist! 31Jun 10, 2015 10:50 am Thought a quick update on our progress was about due! We had the check measure for the Caesarstone benchtops done on Friday afternoon, so if all goes well they will be installed within 2 weeks. All the appliances are now sitting in my lounge room waiting to be installed, just the dishwasher will be the last thing to purchase. For the cooktop, I went with this induction model from Electrolux. We liked the fact that it's full width but not quite as deep as most cooktops which will give good clearance from the splashback and the front of the benchtop. I'm also not a fan of crowding the cooktop or reaching over hot pots when cooking so this is perfect. For the sink, we were originally going to save some money and get a fairly standard undermount sink from eBay but I wasn't a fan of the sharp angles which would be difficult to keep clean. Instead I got this sink from Oliveri at a great price which also came with the drainer tray. We liked the tighter radius (25mm) of the sink cutout - not too big, not too sharp - and the fact that the internal corners were also radius(ed?) for easier cleaning. We looked for quite a while but we couldn't find a suitable tap at a price we could afford. In the end we opted for forgo the pull-out faucet and bought the larger gooseneck tap from Phoenix Tapware. It's reaches further out than a normal gooseneck tap which should hopefully make washing up easier. I find the lever a bit awkward to use. Your other choices look great. I know what you mean, I think mounting the tap with the lever facing forward would be the easiest way to use it but I'm sure I'll get used to it anyway. If it works the same as the one I use, to get cold water you push the lever to the right and back (or forward to get hot). Having it at the front like a normal mixer i think would be easier. Nice looking spout though. Re: Our home renovation with a Caesarstone twist! 36Jun 23, 2015 11:50 am ![]() I have a similar tap in chrome, the Oliveri Vilo pull out. Also have the exact sink! I know it's an odd thing to say, but the sink is beautiful! Would have loved the Oliveri tap as well but couldn't justify the cost unfortunately. Form-Rite installed the bench tops yesterday morning then the guys from Attwells were back out today to finish off the splashback so the kitchen is now complete minus some plumbing and electrical. I spent a few days with Form-Rite filming their entire production process, and for a "how it's made" nerd like myself it was amazing to watch. That film will be up in the coming weeks, along with some more professional photos of the completed kitchen but in the meantime here is a quick teaser shot! They are taking some professional photos of our kitchen tomorrow for their marketing stuff. Will post when I get a copy! Form-Rite are amazing! The fabrication video I shot with them is almost ready, can't wait to share it! One more quick update from me before I unveil the finished kitchen, but we had the last piece of the puzzle arrive yesterday - our integrated dishwasher! We chose Bosch as they seem to be the most well-reviewed brand for dishwashers online. It seems the model I had originally chosen a few weeks ago had been discontinued and replaced with a new model with less features for the same price. Luckily I was able to track down one of the last remaining stock of the model I wanted and had it installed on Tuesday. As a fully-integrated model, I love the fact that it has a mini-projector at the base of the dishwasher which projects the wash type and time remaining onto the floor.
