Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 11, 2014 10:50 pm Hi, We are having our bathroom/kitchen/dining area reconfigured as the current configuration doesn’t flow very well. It’s an old semi. We have had some designs drawn up but are feeling a little uneasy about parts of the design. It’s a tricky space as it’s so small ! So we also had a fiddle with the design and would love some feedback (I think we’ve been staring at them both for too long !!) Which design to you prefer? Pros / cons of both? Is there anything you think would not work. The first page is the initial design that was put forward and the second is our go at modifying it. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e342/ ... 0ba562.jpg http://s42.photobucket.com/user/AlleyCa ... 5.jpg.html Trying not to make this post too lengthy but I thought I’d add some thoughts about both: First design - Leaves less open space in the dining area (3100 this design to 3400 approx the other) - The hallway section going past the laundry/bathroom to the kitchen is a block of 2900mm. If the second design worked we would have a hallway of 2300mm and then the kitchen bench of 600mm. It’s the same total length but I feel having the kitchen bench would make the room feel like it “opens out” sooner, rather than having a solid wall to 2900. - Shower is only about 780mm wide - Larger vanity (900 vs 700) - Larger laundry (1200 vs 1000) - Smaller storage cupboard opposite laundry but it’s deeper at approx 500mm Second Design (hopefully the scribbles are okay to read!) - Inset bath with rebate into brick wall to accommodate rim (inset bath 1525 x 765) - The smallest wall around the shower would be 600mm (i.e. 1200 x 1200 and 600 would be the three walls). As the other walls are quite good proportions could you 1) put a glass door stretching from the outside corner of the bath (approx 700mm) or 2) extend the 600mm wall out by another say 300mm as a glass wall so it doesn’t impose on the space too much? - Hall cupboard would only be 300mm deep - Laundry area would be 400mm for sink area (I’m okay with a small sink) and 600mm for washing machine with a bench top over (not a fan of dryers so we’re not planning for one). Thanks very much if you take the time to view and comment! AC Re: Bathroom / Kitchen / Dining reconfiguration 2Sep 11, 2014 11:17 pm Design 2 is better for kitchen n dining. As for laundry swap it to other side so it backs onto kitchen if possible and move storage cabinet to laundry side, than move doorway to the left the vanity side, so there is more wall space behind the open door into bathroom n place toilet behind door, than swing bath along the same wall where vanity is, makes shower much easier space. Re: Bathroom / Kitchen / Dining reconfiguration 4Nov 09, 2014 5:00 am I love the way you have spelt out all the details and given accurate picture of your house. The hallway section can be worked out beautifully into a storage-cum-aisle between the rooms. The laundry and kitchen swap is not required at all. The shifting of doors should be done only after checking with a pro, do not undertake it on your own. On the whole you are pretty clear of what you want to do, so just go ahead.
