I have been reading and some say sand, prime and paint and others say no sanding just prime and paint. Wanting to hear from others who have completed this before.. Re: Help in preparing wood paneling to paint. 3Sep 13, 2014 9:58 pm Hi there, I would use a coat or two of Zinsser Cover Stain (from Bunnings). It's an oil-based primer but you can use water-based acrylic over the top. You will only need to sand if the surface is unsatisfactory, otherwise just paint it straight on after a quick clean of the surface to remove grease, (use sugar-soap). Using water-based paint on top will make re-covering easier in the future. Edit: forgot to ask if the timber was already painted / varnished! I painted tongue & groove raw pine a year or so ago, used white acrylic paint (wall paint) as an undercoat, then WATER BASED Taubmans Endure Gloss 'doors & trim' paint over the top. I wanted the high gloss finish for cleanability, as it was in the pantry, but I'm pretty sure you can get lower sheens. (I try to stay away from oil-based wherever I can). You may need to sand in between coats, as the gloss paint tends to lift the fibres of the pine. You'll know if you do, just run your hand over it. I would use an electric sander (random orbital, orbital, or mouse sander) or just a fine sanding sponge. You don't have to put too much effort in. I've filled, levelled and compacted around 100mm of roadbase in preparation to lay some outdoor court tiles. Prior to doing the final compaction, I dusted the top with… 0 3037 We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5243 yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5263 |
