Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 05, 2014 2:49 pm I am tentatively starting this thread and will make every effort to comply with both the TOS and the general nature of homeone. I have been absent from the forums for sometime but felt compelled to return to share a friends tale of woe. That will come much later as they are still on the road to vcat and i don't want to jeopardize their case. What I am concerned about is the lack of information out there about the reputation of builders. You can log onto several site and get blistering reviews about a toaster or washing machine but not about a hopeless builder. 30 bucks gone on a toaster is one thing but the money we seem to risk on our homes with no fearless advice out there is ridiculous. I know the obvious reason for this is the very mention of a name on here will spark lawyers at 20 paces, but surely a collection of voices on here would send a bad builder scurrying from the light. I want to hear from people who have had a bad experience, not a light switch in the wrong place, but a knock down rebuild is the only way to fix it. You can PM me with any detail that cant be aired in the forum, and keep company names off here. I'm serious about making a difference here in Victoria and i do have access to ways to do this. As that BCRA website says "govts have abandoned us". Good luck with trying to effect change, but from a pre emptive point of view, Ive found this forum invaluable. Countless examples of sh0nky trade work across the build spectrum have been documented here to serve as a salient warning. Maybe anyone contemplating building should be forced to sign up here and read all the forums. Ive given up on trusting govts to protect us. After all, the GFC is a direct result of the US govt and the US finance industry regulators failing to do their job properly, and for that the whole world is now paying a severe price. Pathetic. Re: the good the bad and the downright ugly 6Jul 08, 2014 3:56 pm You can now request details about the history of the builder from the VBA. Another good idea is to contact a couple of building lawyers in your state and ask if they have ever acted for your builder.. Re: the good the bad and the downright ugly 7Jul 21, 2014 12:27 pm I have had dealings with the bcra and to be honest it is full of a lot of damaged souls. They really do have their heart in the right place but quickly spin off into crack pot conspiracy theories etc. Many of the clients of the company in question have been destroyed by the process, especially when it comes to consumer affairs. what really concerns me today is that sites like product review are taking down any negative reviews I have written about this company. My language has been measured and all i have said is that I have had a bad experience with this company. Mine was the only negative review in the stream of several I believe fake positive reviews and still it was taken down. at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above. In NSW you would contact a Water services co-ordinator and they would give you advice as to whether or not… 1 16146 do not pay until you are satisfied with workmanship windows require flashing over the head archithrave and up under weatherboards 3 28281 |
