Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 29, 2014 10:17 am Hi,
I've just come across a dilemma, I need to cut a joist to allow for a toilet, I've just discovered the waste pipe will be directly above it. The joists are at 450mm centres, 225x50mm hardwood Joist spans 5m, sits on a RSJ in the middle of the house one side and a bearer on the external wall. If I head off the joist to the joists either side, do I need to double the joists? I'll only be cutting one joist so the header will be 900mm. I was hoping I can do this" http://www.terrylove.com/forums/attachm ... 1202530200 Rather than this: http://www.renovation-headquarters.com/ ... t%20cr.jpg I'd prefer not to have to double everything, as that would mean ripping down all the garage ceiling below which is 4m high and asbestos. What is the code for cutting joists? Cheers Re: Cutting a joist 4Jun 29, 2014 12:58 pm if your only cutting out a single joist you are only spanning 850mm with the intermediate joist you put in. make sure you have good fixing with the new intermediate and where the cut joist runs into it. if possible batten screw from the opposite side or use 190x50 joist hangers to hold it up. Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me. There maybe should be an additional J1 between TB10 and T12 if… 3 27697 Seconded; we just used these last weekend to build a small deck. They worked perfectly as we have bluestone in the area where we wanted to build so digging down was not… 8 7722 1 8699 |
