Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 23, 2014 11:30 pm Hi everyone, We are looking at putting White Polished Porcelain Tiles 600x600 ($55sqm) in our house downstairs. We received a quote and the labour cost is $55sqm and another $1640 because we want white grout. The area to lay tiles is about 85sqm. Is this too much? Thanks Re: Porcelain Tiles 2Jun 24, 2014 7:15 am Wow - over $7k before you buy the tiles. Does sound a lot - but I'm not a tiler. Have you sought 3 quotes ? Re: Porcelain Tiles 3Jun 24, 2014 7:58 am Can't comment about the price but I'd think very long and hard before I put in white grout on a floor! *I presume it was the floor Re: Porcelain Tiles 5Jun 24, 2014 11:14 am qebtel $6315 to lay your tiles on a cement floor seems excessive to me. Get a bunch of quotes, 3 isnt enough. Sometimes you have to get lots to find someone to do it at a reasonable price. Agree ... But - 3 is a minimum IMO. Re: Porcelain Tiles 6Jun 24, 2014 11:57 am A few questions to ask them. Are they laying the tiles on a sand/cement bed or glueing them straight to the slab ? What about expansion joins ? An area of that amount would need at least a couple. Ask them if you can see some of their previous or current jobs too. Stewie Re: Porcelain Tiles 7Jun 24, 2014 7:53 pm The per sqm charge sounds about right. Our tiling labour is way more than the cost of the actual tiles for us. 600x600 size increase labour costs significantly. We found prices ranged from $35/sqm to $80/sqm (Brisbane). Not sure about the increased cost for the grout - perhaps this included colour sealing it or something? This is a quote from the company that does tiling for the builder so I guess they are charging a lot. I will be asking them the questions and wait for their response. Does anyone know good tilers in Western Sydney area? If you do please PM me the details.
