Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 01, 2014 7:44 am Hi, We're at lockup stage of building our new house in brissy. One of the rooms has turned out to be smaller than we wanted, so want to expand it after handover. The room is upstairs, builder isn't laying the carpet. The area to expand "into" is currently a 510mm deep linen cupboard and a void of same depth. On other words we're not moving a wall, just hollowing out part of a frame already there. What contractor do I need to get for this? Would it need a seperate guy to deconstruct frame+build new and then a seperate plasterer? We will repaint it ourselves. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts Re: Changing a wall - what contractor types needed? 3Jun 04, 2014 1:02 pm As said, chippy and plasterer. I would take down the plasterboard covering the timber to be removed and ensure there are no wires/pipes or anything else to be moved, as that would need to be addressed before the chippy alters the frame - or if you want to add a powerpoint/network point, grab the chance to do it easily while the plaster is off. Check on getting new/additional skirting to cover what was the linen doorway space too; it will need to match! Oh, and check about disposal of the old plaster and timber. And remember that taking down plaster creates an annoying quantity of dust so dust-protect anything needed before you get into it. Once you have broken plaster pieces, you can use a spray bottle of water very lightly on the edges to subdue dust while you're getting them out of the house - even if you wrapping them in plastic/bags, I found that a little bit of water spray reduced floating dust along the way. We were able to get the builder to do it for us in the end, which we really appreciated. Turns out they were going to hide an a/c duct in part of it after all ! How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at? Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11893 Hi All, I'm new here!
