My husband and I are looking to do extensions on the side of our house. We are on a corner block with the same road curving around. We were told in a quick meeting with a council member that apparently the smaller side of our block is seen as the 'front' of the block and the longer length will be seen as the 'side'.
We don't understand this rule as our front door, driveway access, letter box and garage are all on the longer side of the block.
They are then saying that we have to keep in line with the property behind us so therefore we cannot move any further to the side. The property behind us is on a different road.
We find it really strange that now we are apparently allowed to build forward and be further in front of the house that is actually on our road, but we have to keep in line with a house that is not technically on our road.
Can somebody help me to find out where the rules are for what is seen as the 'front' of the property for a corner block?
I can't find it anywhere and I am hopeful that we can sort it out.
