Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 27, 2014 7:29 pm Is this even possible to add a loft to a pre existing brick and tile house in WA? Has anyone done this and could it be done without vacating house. Also any ideas on cost. This is a thought process right now, have no idea if it is feasible or even possible. The loft would ideally be a games/tv room for kids and possibly a bedroom. No plumbing. Thanks Re: Adding a loft extension in WA 2May 27, 2014 7:56 pm It is definitely possible. You can still live in your house per se while people are in/out working on it but that's more so a personal choice Cost varies a lot based on size, and then how you want it finished, do you want windows? Ive given thought to creating a 3x4m storage area in my roof space. The existing brick internal walls are strong enough to hold up. But the existing ceiling rafters are 90x35mm pine beams only intended to hold up the gyprock! In new houses generally internal wall slabs aren't thickened and the walls are non Loadbearing fastwall. It is possible to use lightweight materials but by the seaside consideration must be given to the coastal environment, durability, wind loading etc. It is best to get your house properly inspected first and then look at what options are available ie, Pods, Prefab, Timberframe, SIP.etc and get quotes.....HTH Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room.
