Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 13, 2014 4:27 pm Hi, Just a word of warning to any builders or renovators considering SCYON Matrix cladding from James Hardie for their new house or extension. Stay away, its an inferior product. Unfortunately when we were building our extension last year we decided that it would be a suitable product.BIG MISTAKE!!!!! It was properly installed, primed and painted as per instructions. 4 weeks after it was painted the paint on the northern side of the house started bubbling. We contacted James Hardie who came for a site visit and recommended to sand it and repaint. We did as we were told by sanding it down repriming and repainting. That did not work. After contacting James Hardie, they made excuses as to why its not the board, getting an independent painter to measure the moisture which showed that there was none then sending a sample to a DULUX lab. This has now been going for 13 months. I have been asking James Hardie to rectify a faulty product under their manufacturer warranty and them coming up with every excuse under the sun why its not their fault. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b53 ... 7be392.jpg http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b53 ... 84310d.jpg DO NOT USE MATRIX cladding. Re: stay away from James Hardie Scyon Matrix 2May 13, 2014 6:38 pm In your case study of 1, I cant agree with you. We use it fairly often and dont have a problem. I tend to think its a paint application or preperation problem, the fact its across 3 sheets in the same place. A stupid question this one maybe, but is it installed with the correct side out? Re: stay away from James Hardie Scyon Matrix 3May 14, 2014 8:26 am I tend to agree with you mgilla. Each of those faulty areas is adjacent to a join which leads me to think it is a water or moisture penetration problem caused by faulty installation or prep work as mgilla says. There are lots of people who have it on their homes who don't have problems with it. If the sheeting itself was delaminating causing the bubbling paint I'd say you are correct in assuming that it was a fault of the product but not so here looking at the photos. Stewie Re: stay away from James Hardie Scyon Matrix 4May 14, 2014 8:27 pm I agree with both of you. I have used scyon in its various forms and have never seen an issue like that. Modern exterior acrylic paints are very durable when applied correctly on just about any product, as long as you follow the recommendations. It definitely looks like moisture coming from behind. Normally that would indicate an installation of finishing issue. It is possible that there has been some manufacturing issue or the sheets were contaminated with something before painting. I understand that the op is disappointed but I think people are quite safe selecting scyon for there houses.
