Hi All,
Newbie here, and wishing I'd found this forum ages ago when I was sending myself crazy looking at our floorplan! I'm sure this is the first of many appeals for help!
Hubby and I are about to embark on a major overhaul of a small 3 bed house (built 1983) on Qld's sunny coast. We've lived in the area for almost 10 years now and it has been our dream for a few years now to move closer to the beach. We purchased the property over 2 years ago as an investment and it's been tenanted since. During that time we've deliberated what to do with it, initially with grand views of adding another storey, we've now decided to work with what we have and only make a few relatively minor extensions. The layout however has changed totally as we're adding a pool and wanted to move the kitchen/living/dining from the front of the house to the back. We are also planning to convert the existing single garage into the master bed and ensuite, and have incorporated an extra multi purpose room (spare bed/study/kids playroom).
Anyway, exterior colours....In addition to the pool, we're installing a 6m x 9m shed (2 car garage plus workshop area) in the backyard. One of the first decisions to be made is what colour we want it to be. Given it it takes up such a large part of the backyard and will be somewhat obvious from the street, I'm hoping to incorporate it into the overall colour scheme, and for it not to be a big metal eyesore!
I've always had a modern beachy white, charcoal and timber colour scheme in mind for the house. For that reason I'm thinking maybe 'Basalt' for the shed (walls/roof/roller doors) and am after ideas about how to therefore incorporate the same dark grey colour into the facade and possibly fence. I've only see a colour chip sample of 'Basalt' (one of Colorbond's new colours) so would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the colour? Thinking/hoping a darker colour will make the shed blend in better with the landscaping and look more modern?
I've attached a few pics of the proposed facade (front and back), as well as a 3D drawing of the house, shed etc. Thinking Surfmist for the roof, and white windows, but other than that open to suggestions. The draftsman has drawn cladding at the front of the house and the rest is rendered, but really we can do what we like. The deck at the front door will be timber as will the post. I'm also keen to have a coloured door, so want to keep the exterior colours neutral.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for your thoughts and assistance!
