Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 28, 2014 3:35 pm Hi everyone We have just purchased a property on the weekend and are looking to do some significant renovations (significant for us anyway). Major changes: 1. Enclose double carport and turn it into the master bedroom 2. Move the existing laundry / WC / bathroom to the current master bedroom (which is next to their current location) 3. We'd also need to move the timber floor from existing master bedroom and use it in the space left behind by the laundry/WC/bathroom Any ideas how much this is likely to cost? We are also remodelling the kitchen and obviously the wet areas - considering getting a builder to do the structural changes and then we organise the other trades like kitchen/tiler/painter etc etc. Does this sound like a good approach? Thanks for your advice! Re: Converting a double carport to a master bedroom 2Apr 28, 2014 3:51 pm Converting a carport into a garage - I would think that the resultant room would have to comply with side and front set back requirements. The roofline would more than likely need to be altered as well. Moving laundry and or WC sounds costly as services would need to be relocated. I would get the opinion from a Reno specialist by articulating your requirements and see what they propose. I would provide a ball park if what you are looking to spend as well. Re: Converting a double carport to a master bedroom 3Apr 29, 2014 9:06 pm If this is slab on ground moving pipes under slab is very costly. Also, is the carport under the main house roof structure? Is the carport slab even a structural slab? If there is a break between this slab and the main house chances it isn't. I think you are up for a bit, but I doubt anyone would throw a ball park at you with such little info. Snap a photo of the carport, draw a mud map and tell us your location and people might throw a number at you start from at least $20,000 just for fixtures and finishes and then add on for moving plumbing and extra for a concrete floored house last new bathroom we installed in a… 1 17838 2 9385 If I hire a contractor to convert a window to a sliding door will I need to show them Council approval paperwork?
