Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 10, 2014 10:18 am Hi all I am renovating and one of the ideas is to install a cavity in slider door to a bedroom (currently guest room) which is next to the kitchen. Is it a good idea or should I stick with standard hinged door? Hinged door will mean I will have to remodel the wardrobe in this room. Any ideas? Cheers, Nish Re: Sliding door to bedroom 2Mar 10, 2014 11:27 am Hi Nish, I guess there are a couple of things to think about if using a cavity slider for a bedroom door. One is noise transfer. Often cavity sliders when they are closed sit flat against the door frame rather than sitting against a rebate like a normal hinged door would. This can mean that sound can travel through the door more easily. This may or may not be an issue in this case. You could see if you could have a kind of rebate for the door to slide into when it closes. The other issue is privacy when the door opens. Usually with a hinged door, you can still have an element of privacy even if the door is slightly open. This is not so with a cavity slider as you can see straight through. Not sure if this would be acceptable. Just a couple of things to think about. Good luck with it. Cheers, Jenny. Need hints, tips and inspiration? But - if its away from main traffic area may not be an issue. You say next to kitchen - but is kitchen busy during night ? If it is guest room it might not be an issue. Also - it will save space. Perhaps it could be wider than usual and close off better - I mean into either side have a longer peace. Does that make sense. I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors. I am on a second-story apartment of which the balcony would not adequately fit any bi-fold or… 5 16161 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Thanks Chippy . Did also see a YouTube video before.
