Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 09, 2014 11:28 am Hi everyone, this is my first post. We live in Southern Sydney and were hoping to convert the double garage, which is connected to lower floor of the house, into extra accommodation. We would need to excavate out a new double/ triple garage at street level- we live on a sloping block, which currently has a very steep concrete driveway up to the garage/ house. The house is set back approx. 8 m from the footpath, with a rise of about 2m. Does anyone know how much it would cost to remove the current concrete driveway, and excavate out approx. 6.5 deep by 8m wide (we would like to have double garage and some storage room for bikes etc) through sandstone. Also, what would be the approx. cost for the garage- I am thinking concrete slap, brick walls and some sort of gabled or sloping roof, with a new set of concrete steps up the side of the garage to the front door. Behind the new garage, the old garage would have windows for 2 new bedrooms, which I think would look out on the new roof of the new garage, so not sure what roof would look best for the new garage?? Thank you for your advice. Re: Cost to excavate double garage through sandstone 3Mar 11, 2014 5:13 am Thanks, Stewie, no I haven't checked yet. I was thinking of weighing up costs of several options before contacting council. Our other option is retaining the double garage and turning the rear of the garage (the garage is 2 cars deep) which is currently a workshop into a 5th bedroom and bathroom. I might put a call into council anyway and see what they think about building forward. There are some examples of building forward in the neighbourhood, but not many on the footpath side. I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12408 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7326 Hi When it rains in a particular direction water comes through the security door.
