Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 02, 2014 6:48 pm Hi all We are about to get a new driveway and carport slab. The contractor we have engaged excavated this week (removed old concrete strips and graded the area) and we've had heaps of rain since, so we now have a clay mess. He plans to pour the concrete straight onto the clay when it dries out, but I wonder if we should instead scrape the now soft top layer of clay and replace with gravel or similar and compact it. There is also a big hole where the plumber dug up and replaced the sewer connection - the plan is to fill this with gravel. The concrete will be 120mm thick and is 32mpa. Seems to be rock about 500mm below the surface. Do you think it is ok to go straight onto the clay once dry or should we spend the extra to remove more clay, replace with a gravel and compact it. Any other suggestions? Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10948 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5164 |
