Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 24, 2014 1:05 pm Hi, This is my first post so hopefully it makes sense.. .we currently live in a double storey home which just has 2 small bedrooms and toilet upstairs. We had plans drawn by a draftsman to extend the second floor to include a full bathroom and another living area whilst fully insulating the walls and replacing all windows with double glazed. So our dilemma is we have a builder (referred by family member) who has been working on our plans/quotes and promising to start for over 2 years now!! Once again another date has passed when he promised to start and does not return our messages Think it is time to move on and find a new builder but have no idea where to even start and don't want to spend more money on plans again. Can anyone recommend well priced builders who can be trusted and deal with small extensions.. FYI our quote was $85k. Def cannot go over $90k. Thanks heaps Re: Melbourne Builder recommendations for second story exten 2Feb 26, 2014 8:14 am I know of a couple of custom builders but not sure if they do extension. Give them a call.. Long Island Homes, Ashford Homes and Nava Homes are 3. Here is a link to custom builder thread.http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64070 Hope this at least gives you a starting point.. Good Luck. Re: Melbourne Builder recommendations for second story exten 3Mar 07, 2014 1:48 pm Hi, A company called RFT Solutions based in Richmond offers a Tender service. They send plans and engineering etc to 3 or more builders after checking their registration and references. Then they assess the builders quotes to make sure the quotes include all the works to be done and assist you with the the building contract. Saves money and stress and I think they only charge approx $1,000 I think. try calling (03) 9429 2222 or www.rftsolutions.com.au Re: Melbourne Builder recommendations for second story exten 4Mar 07, 2014 2:06 pm Thanks so much for the advice, I will contact RFT Solutions, just looking at their website sounds like a great idea. (I called our builder again last week but he still hasn't contacted me) Very frustrating Re: Melbourne extension single storey 5Jun 22, 2014 2:57 pm Hi, I’m planning for an extension of my house in the eastern suburb of Melbourne. The house is tenanted by a family. I’m planning to add a self-contained extension in the backyard that consists of 2 bedrooms, a bathroom/toilet, kitchen, living area & internal laundry. My objective is to have 2 families occupying the house, yet have enough privacy. Wondering if anyone has done similar extension that offers dual occupancy without any subdivision. Thanks.
