Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jan 31, 2014 1:05 pm Hi we are renovating our back living area (an 80s addition, big rectangle approx. 5.5m x 12, with the kitchen down one end and the living space at the other. At the living end, on the 5.5m wall, we are installing a gas fireplace. Our designer suggested the Jetmaster 700S, which is an open-fronted decorative fire. Everything I hear from the sales people steers me towards the Heat n Glo 450 (ie heat generating, glass-fronted). We will have ducted heating, and the primary purpose is decorative. However, if we are only on the living area and don't need the central heating on, I guess that's a bonus. My major concern about the 450 is, ironically, that we will get too hot. eg we might have the central heating on so other areas of the house aren't arctic, and then find that, crowded around the Jetmaster watching TV, we are too hot. I also prefer the less square look of the 700S, although I think putting a 3-sided fascia on the heat n Glo rather than four sided might help this. Positive for the Heat n Glo are: - less expensive to run - can heat (good if we require it, bad if not) - takes air from outside - safe for kids (our youngest is 6 but there are occasionally younger kids around - although easy solution to that is simply not turn it on when kids are around) - can flue horizontally which may be better for us. Heat n Glo seems more practical, but I would love to hear what others think. Any regrets with your installation? Happy? Thank you! Re: Jetmaster fire - Heat n Glo too hot? Better decorative? 2Mar 02, 2014 9:54 am Are you sure you have the model no. correct ? I can find reference to a Hn'G 350 and 550 but not a 450. From my understanding ( I have been to the jetmaster shop here in Sydney and asked a lot of questions ) depending on which Hn'G fireplace you go for they mostly have thermostats that can be pre-set to a certain temperature so I think your concerns about it being too hot may be a moot point. All the other points you raise are why we are going for a Hn'G fire in the near future especially the drawing air in from the outside aspect. Incidentally I have at least four clients and friends who have installed these over the last five years and swear by them both the product and dealing with the company.
