All along we had anticipated that the rear brick wall would stay (becoming an internal wall) and we'd just cover it in Gyprock. Yesterday someone suggested that it's better to remove the bricks because (a) it will give us another 100mm of space in the extension, (b) will make it easier to connect the new timber frame to the existing and (c) will prevent water from tracking in through the brick and affecting the Gyprock. They all sound like good reasons to remove the brick - but there is cost and time involved in doing so. What is your view, should the brick wall stay or go? can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4470 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7945 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
