Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Nov 18, 2013 5:48 pm We're about to add an extension to the rear of our brick veneer house. All along we had anticipated that the rear brick wall would stay (becoming an internal wall) and we'd just cover it in Gyprock. Yesterday someone suggested that it's better to remove the bricks because (a) it will give us another 100mm of space in the extension, (b) will make it easier to connect the new timber frame to the existing and (c) will prevent water from tracking in through the brick and affecting the Gyprock. They all sound like good reasons to remove the brick - but there is cost and time involved in doing so. What is your view, should the brick wall stay or go? id suggest getting an engineer to give you an opinion rather than a builder. 1 11932 I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 23170 can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 3374 |
