Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Sep 07, 2013 10:50 am Hi, I have read this forum for a while and found it helpful. We have finally started the renovation so thought i would ask a question. Living in Sydney - inner city. We need to fix a retaining wall first (about 6metres long, bit over 2m high). The engineer has done the report etc., and we need: 19 * 400 diameter contiguous piers to a depth of 5 lineal metres - quote is $150/lineal metre - so total $14250 (no GST included) Also, for a bathroom & laundry extension, we need 3 * 300diameter footing piers to a depth of 5 lineal metres - quote $110/lineal metre. Total $1650 Pump hire is a bit over $2000. So total just over $20,000 with GST. I'm a newbie at renovation - definitely want a very reliable, trustworthy fully licensed job rather than a cheap one. I thought it was quite expensive or does the quote seem in the right ballpark? Any replies are greatly appreciated. Re: Piering cost question for retaining wall 2Sep 07, 2013 2:00 pm It hard to say without understanding the access .... but for excavating a 5m deep hole with poor access, removing the spoil, and back filling with concrete $150/m seems pretty reasonable. Re: Piering cost question for retaining wall 3Sep 07, 2013 6:33 pm Thanks bashworth. There is a wooden gate 1m wide that allows access. If needed, and cheaper, we have said the fence near the gate can be taken down as we will change that down the line anyway and that gives plenty of access. The side where the gate is has good access. Re: Piering cost question for retaining wall 4Sep 07, 2013 6:48 pm That doesn't sound like good access to me! Good access is when you can get a decent sized excavator to the hole. Reasonable access is when you can get a bobcat. Anything else is poor access. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Have a good day 4 5113 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16104 Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria.
