Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Aug 04, 2013 3:59 pm Hi everyone! I was wondering on thoughts and any tips on renovating at all. ME and my partner have bought a property in NSW Western Sydney, its a really 1970's house (pink bathtub, green carpet, orange kitchen) lets just say this house has every colour imaginable. We are only 21 and have thought to buy this house and renovate it! The first thing is the bathroom, it has an outdoor toilet eek! so any advice on any bathroom renovating at all would be appreciated. Our family friend is a plumber so he will do it no charge and my partner an electrician. The bathroom is way small. will upload photos soon and my aim is to get it all renovated at $1200 is that not enough. We went to renovator auctions and so far have priced a few things. We just want a standard bathroom nothing fancy! Any tips of where to buy tiles/bathroom supplies or anything in general for this house would be appreciated! Re: First time Renovating- TIPS and any advice! 2Aug 04, 2013 6:33 pm Hi! Only tip I would have, is don't expect everything to run smoothly.....you're bound to run into issues. Depending how far out west you are....we found Beaumont tiles to be exceptional, in service and price. I think $1200 is stretching it. Angeltouch bathrooms have some great deals and prices. We've just completed our second bathroom/laundry (will upload photos soon, not sure how to from iPad) for about $4,500 - $5,000. Re: First time Renovating- TIPS and any advice! 4Aug 04, 2013 8:06 pm Thanks so much for the advice! Ill definitely look into those places. We have asbestos removal booked in for us to do before we even enter. Any other tips! I've been researching like crazy! So many things to choose from! Re: First time Renovating- TIPS and any advice! 5Aug 05, 2013 8:58 am Good to see you are getting rid of the asbestos before you move in, wish we done the same. I think you will struggle with that budget if you plan on redoing everything, we are trying to do ours for about 3k. To keep the budget down the most important thing I think is to not move any plumbing around, that can get very expensive. Also shop around for everything, we found prices vary soo much for pretty much identical products. We found a great free standing bath at masters for about $450 http://www.masters.com.au/masters/navig ... etails.jsp comes in a few sizes depending on how big your bathroom is. Its a bargain I think compared to others baths we have seen. http://www.highgrovebathrooms.com had some good prices showers and http://www.harpersbathroom.com.au had a great range of vanities and taps, shower heads ect for great prices. Not sure if Harpers is in NSW but looks like highgrove is - they also have decent prices on vanities and taps. Im doing the tiling/waterproofing my self too to keep costs down, 3k budget would blow out if had to pay for tradies. Was my first time doing it, its not so hard We are doing floor to ceiling tiles, but if you don't do that then tiles wont be a huge cost. Again shop around for tiles, can find some nice ones (Often clearance/sales) for really good prices. Try CTM Tile market at Seven Hills. They have some great sales on. We saved $100's on our bathroom tiles. Look on Ebay for other fittings, bath, vanity, toilet, taps etc. Atr Parklea markets theres a guy that has good taps at a good price. We have fully renovated a few houses in Sydneys west. Feel free to message me if you want some help or advice. I'm having reno withdrawals. Re: First time Renovating- TIPS and any advice! 7Aug 28, 2013 3:45 pm As you are saying that it is an old house, so you should renovate all parts of it to give it a new stylish appearance. In bathroom, you should change tiles and use modern tiles. Also change flooring, curtains, paint and furniture of all the rooms to make them look better. If you will renovate all parts of it, then you need no more maintenance for some years otherwise you need to call repairer time to time.
