In out front yard; above the garage; there is a huge C band satellite dish; about 2m in diameter. it is clearly visible from the street; and many visitors comment about it.
am about to sell the house; do you think the dish decreases the house value? is it worth removing it?

I don;t think it decreases the value, it's not like a potential purchaser can't work out that it is removable. I think you have more trouble with design features of houses that can;t easily be changed.
On the other side of the coin it won;t add any value to your house sale so if it is worth reasonable money to sell, it might be worth your while selling it prior to going on market (don;t know anything about them and if there is a market for them) just a thought.

Couple of ways to look at this issue:
Whilst it is most probably easily removable with hours work an and a decent skip bin, the fact that something that is there that catches your visitors' eyes will also draw the attention of prospective buyers.
If you get rid of it prior to sale and fix up/remove the mounting points it'll open the area up.
If you leave it there, be aware that it may put some buyers off as they see it as extra work they have to do before moving in/renovating/renting.
Suppose its a bit like the neutral colours thing when trying to sell a house-you want to make it as appealing to a broad a range of prospective buyers as possible. Then again a fan of satellite TV might just stroll up the driveway and it wins their heart.

It's a tough decision indeed.
A portion of potential buyers would want the satellite; but it is too much of eye catching.
