Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jul 01, 2013 2:58 am I have an old house which has interior doors with transom windows in which the glass has long disappeared. I should like to fill the space by perhaps using a patterned wood panel ... (that is a pattern cut through a wood panel) I thought this would be cheaper than glass and nicely painted should look reasonably attractive. I have searched but am unable to find any places which would provide cut panels approximately 860 X 450mm. I am wondering if anyone here would know of a place which would do this and be able to send them to me. If that is not possible perhaps there is someplace where I could find pattern templates and perhaps I could use a jigsaw to cut them myself. Thanks... Re: Transom windows 2Jul 01, 2013 12:32 pm Sounds like an awful lot of trouble and I doubt if it would be any cheaper and I doubt if it would look all that flash, than calling a glazier and have him cut and fix new panes. Why not roughly measure them and phone for a rough quote? Arfur Re: Transom windows 4Jul 04, 2013 11:48 am I agree with the Uncle. The timber solution will cost at least double. You can get some nice obscure patterns on glass or attach a 3M sheet that looks pretty much like sand blasting and they all let light through. They are a well known company in Brisbane known for carrying traditional timber features. These breezeways used to very common in QLD homes many years ago Re: Transom windows 7Jul 08, 2013 12:13 am Hi, Thank you for your reply. Yes, i think this is what i am looking for...I remember some years ago being in an old house and in the transom window space there was flat wood sheets which had a symetrical pattern cut into them. They allowed light and air to enter the room and effectively hid the missing glass which used to be in place. I live in Toowoomba. I will search Finlaysons timber and see what they have to offer. I appreciate your advice. Cheers...John Depends... Brick veneer required the window to be attached to the house frame, this is usually achieved by screwing through the timber reveal into the frame.
