Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Jun 08, 2013 12:08 pm Hi People, I am just looking for some advise on eliminating a pole out of a carport. It has 3 posts and i want to only have 2. End to end it is 6m so I see a span of at least 5M. What i want to know is can i use say a 290X45 to span this 5m with a 450mm overhang. This will allow me to stop doors on the car hitting the middle post. The carport will be approx 3.5m wide and I will fix it to the house and use 140X45 rafters Thanks for any advise Re: Carport timber help 2Jun 08, 2013 12:25 pm 290 x 45mm will be fine Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Carport timber help 4Jun 13, 2013 12:14 pm According to my span tables, one 290 x 45 support beam wouldn't cut it. 290 x 90 F7 ( 2 @ 290 x 45's nailed together ) would just scrape in and that's if it is a sheet metal roof. A beam supporting a tiled roof would need to be beefed up even further. Stewie Re: Carport timber help 5Jun 13, 2013 1:46 pm Have you entered correct load width? Just rechecked and passes software test for 'carport' beam with sheet roof Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15887 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated. Also thanks for the pointer on sheathing, thats me watching too many american youtube videos! 6 2777 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6113 |
