Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 16, 2013 9:14 am Just thought use this place to list the things I want to get done for our future new home. It's a 60s brick house with some extension work done. Still clean and neat. Nice layout with fairly old wallpaper and carpet. My wife (aka the boss) doesn't like its old style bath rooms and kitchen. She refuse to move in before those things are renovated. So here come the to do list: - Renovate front and rear bath rooms (Re-tile, new sink, new shower, new toliet... will have to get a professional to do, don't know how much, how long it will take) - Renovate the kitchen (Move the oven half meter, new ranghood, new cabinets, new pantry, new bench top, new lighting. Need a professional to get it done. Again, don't know how much, how long will take) - Remove old wall paper (DIY, hire a steam remover should do the job, will prob take 1.5 week) - Remove the rumpus room and study room flooring (It's fitted with some sort of Vinyl tiles. Have to check if they have asbestos in them. Could be pricey to get rid of. Estimate take 2 weeks to get rid of) - Paint the walls (DIY, estimate to take me 2 weeks) - Paint the window frames (DIY, estimate to take me 1 week) - Remove old carpet for 3 bed rooms (DIY, estimate 3 days) - Lay new carpet for 3 bed rooms, rumpus and study rooms (DIY, estimate 3 weeks) My current plan is to leave around 3 months to do all these. For the pros there, does that sound practical? I don't have a budget yet. Heard a good bath room may cost me 30k... I probably won't go that far. But that number will be alright for 2x bath room and 1 kitchen in total Re: My renovation to do list 2May 19, 2013 6:16 pm Hi, You really need to do some reasearch and get a rough budget otherwise it's a never ending moneypit. Get some quotes for things you can't do yourself. - Renovate front and rear bath rooms -to save money strip out the vanity, bath etc yourself. Bathroom and kitchen take the longest sdo get them started first. Other thingfs can be done while they are being done also. - Renovate the kitchen Get a kitchen mob out to quote. - Remove old wall paper Yes hire a steamer. Can be quick depending on paper. Buy a scorer from Bunnings to make holes in the paper to let the steam in.Unless it's a whole house it won't take too long. - Remove the rumpus room and study room flooring Some tiles are easy to remove, some not. Get a heat gun and a big scraper, heat and lift. - Paint the walls I painted a 3 bdroom villa in one day. Second coat next day. After preparation it's quick. - Paint the window framesDepends on preparation as to time. - Remove old carpet for 3 bed rooms 3 hours more like it. Run a stanley knife down the middle, rip it up, vacuum - Lay new carpet for 3 bed rooms, rumpus and study rooms You can lay carpet? Buy carpet and it's installed. One day. Good luck. If you are not living there and you are not working shouldn't take that long. But as I said get the bathroom and kitchen started and do all the other stuff while they are being done. We generally renovate a whole house in 5 weeks. That's new bathroom and kitchen included. Where are you located? May be able to help with tradies if in Sydney Re: My renovation to do list 3May 20, 2013 10:01 am Great reply! Thanks for the thoroughness. That really gives me some ideas how to start this thing. We are in Melb. The house will be rented out for a year, and then we will get it renovated and move in hopefully around Dec next year. I think the hardest part of this project will be to find the right tradies with the right price... Re: My renovation to do list 4Jul 24, 2013 12:15 pm Ok! The house didn't rent out within a month and "the boss" lost patient. We will start to renovate the place now! I will create a different thread and post some pictures along the way. Hope all goes well... fingers croessed. Re: My renovation to do list 5Jul 24, 2013 3:09 pm Check out IKEA stores for kitchens, everybody I know who has one is very happy with it. Wont cost you a fortune and looks great with many choices. We went with Masters Kitchens but regret it, not worth the extra $$$ Should be able to put the cabinets together yourself, otherwise can hire a handy man to do it pretty cheap too. Bathrooms range so much in prices, check out lots of shops. We found great prices on nice Baths at Masters, shower from Highgrove Bathrooms and still looking for the cabinet but lots around for $500 ish that look nice. You can also remove a certain amount of asbestos yourself, just need the proper safety equipment but does not cost much. Instead of getting tests done I think just treat it as asbestos when removing it, saves you some money. Would also get somebody else to lay the carpet for you if you dont know how Our 1970's reno viewtopic.php?f=53&t=65931 Hello Josh, This is Irving from PRIMA, we are a manufacturer of the staircase, railings, kitchen cabinets, windows, doors from China.
