Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 May 01, 2013 12:18 pm Hi All, I thought it was best to ask all of you out here on helping me fix my facade. I have a nice small home, which is quite comfy and wonderful (my view ofcourse! ) inside, but the outside just does not match up to it. My facade is quite dull, because of some last minute color changes during build time. Now I want to fix it, and make it look good. Also recently, I initiated a retaining wall fence build to level the land on the front, and so to allow some stone stacker tile options. But please, give me your views on fixing my front - Paint combinations - Additional decorations/materials - Covering/Fixing for retaining wall - Landscaping fixes If you need me to send more pics, I would be more than happy to. Looking forward to getting very helpful tips. Cheers! The U shaped wall at the front stands out too much as a feature. Maybe consider adding a garden bed in front of it to soften the wall. The right side pillar is also quite large with only 2 posts to support the roof line. It looks a bit odd structurally. I would have had a lighter fascia to give the roof line more definition and contrast between the brick work. Brick wall or stonewall for the front retaining walls would blend in better than timber. Paved steps leading up to the front door with plants either side to soften.

I definitely have to agree with that. Never seen a facade of this in real before choosing it. Yup, taking your advice seriously in order to fix this. Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 4May 01, 2013 5:50 pm Two quick and fairly inexpensive ideas 1.I would paint all the way under the window a dark colour, probably the same dark red as in the pillar on the right. this would break up the amount of grey. 2. A couple of tallish pines in planters, one either side of the window. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 5May 01, 2013 10:51 pm Tallish pines and a garden bed are in the pipeline. I want to break the dull facade look. Painting under window probably is a first step. I want to put some feature on the facade. Was thinking painting dark brown or so? Adding something with timber to break the U shape. Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 6May 02, 2013 3:43 am I think the front window-wall needs softening with a lighter colour, mainly because I think grey with the dark roof and dark bricks overall looks too drab and somewhat commercial. Personally I think the permapine 'boxes' are far too uniform, when 2 or 3 levels terraced with a random line of stone walling with carefully selected planting would have softened the area, but I guess it all comes down to personal taste Arfur Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 7May 02, 2013 9:58 am Uncle Arfur Personally I think the permapine 'boxes' are far too uniform, when 2 or 3 levels terraced with a random line of stone walling with carefully selected planting would have softened the area, but I guess it all comes down to personal taste What are the permapine boxes you mention? the retaining wall? Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 8Aug 08, 2013 11:34 am I actually quite like your façade and what you`ve done so far to the garden. But I do think two thin pencil pines either side of the front window would look good if there is a garden bed space there. I also think if you stained the front retaining wall a dark wood stain it would look good and look more expensively done. And if you built a set of steps from the front porch to the nature strip in decking I think that would look great. To soften the retaining wall you could plant 'tanika lomandra longfolia' at the edges of it and it would grow to flow over the edges and soften it. I have tanika`s all around my front yard and they tolerate frost and full sun and are low maintenance but look great (they`re a smallish grass plant). And in the middle of the retaining wall garden bed you could plant a pink cordyline http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... 13387.aspx , or a little gem magnolia tree .Lots of display homes have them coupled with tanika lomandras these days and I also have one with my tanikas and they`re a nice contrast. I hope I`ve given you some ideas of what you can do to change your façade : ) Re: Advice on Facade Beautification 9Aug 20, 2013 8:30 am Id love to see what you choose to do with the facade! I would probably go with a darker colour on the front U-shape because I think painting it a lighter colour will only make it POP further. eg. black pool fence in your yard you tend to look straight past, white pool fence in your yard, you cant help but notice it. I think the same principle applies here. Plant, plant plant! It will soften no end. Stain the timber planter boxes a dark rich colour and some light sandstone pavers on the way up! Had to have my two cents! : ) best of luck! Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size.
