Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Apr 06, 2013 5:02 pm Hey everyone, I have a question in relation to some excavations I am planning and I have been given difference advice by the experts so just want to see what everyones thoughts are. My neighbour is on the high side of my place and the bottom section of his 2 story pre-war house is held up on concrete posts that a on the boundary. The previous owner has also uses besser blocks to brick up the gaps between the concrete posts. My question is, is is safe to excavate right on the boundary (in stages obviously) to get a wall against the neighbours house? There is hardly any dampness or moisture along that side of both properties (even with all this rain we have had in Brisbane lately). What are the alternatives? The wall will be about 1.5m high tapering off to almost zero. Thanks!! Jay Re: excavating near house built to boundary 2Apr 06, 2013 8:59 pm By experts do you mean a structural engineer? For something like this I wouldn't want to trust a tradie I would want an opinion from someone who had an insurance policy to cover his advice. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: excavating near house built to boundary 3Apr 08, 2013 7:30 pm Engineer says I can as they do it for high rises all the time but costs more. They will need to underpin the other houses foundations. Builder is just a builder and was speaking from the perspective of not having to excavate apart from the initial strip footings. I assumed he was talking about excavating. Ah, the joys of a sloping, 10m wide site. Once I get the design sorted it will be something special. Our standard double-glazed window is tested to achieve, Rw 34, and can be glazed to suit Rw 39. The price is good too... 3 9480 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16304 You should be able to encase the sewer but you will need it designed and approved and access to lot 580 to do the work 2 17168 |
