Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 25, 2013 8:51 pm Hello, Help/advice reqired. I have a stand alone veranda roof supported by 4 SHS 75mmx 75mm steel posts spaced 3.1m. (total span width ~9.4m). I want to attach bearers across the entire width, fixing to the outside face of the steel posts. Bearers are 190x45x3.6 MGP10 and I want to lay ~20 90mmx35mm joists ontop of these @450mm centres I will need to join bearers at the posts and I'd like some advice of ways to best do this as the 75mm post width doesnt give a heck of a lot of area to work with. Are there brackets to help with butt type joins at the each steel post? thanks Re: Fixing Wooden Bearers to Steel Posts 2Mar 27, 2013 11:37 am Personally I would bolt the bearers through the steel posts, but as you say you dont have a lot of timber to work with on the bearer joins so I would weld a 50mm x 6 mm cleats vertically on each side of the post and bolt to these as it will mostly be hidden. If you dont have access to a welder bolt bits of angle instead Arfur Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14435 You’re on the right track, wire brush in a grinder then a zinc rich epoxy primer then a top coat of some sort, like a waterproofing membrane. Raising the concrete would… 1 7020 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9551 |
