Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Mar 13, 2013 9:09 am We're in the process of a complying development for our 50sqm extension and have naively done it via our local council thinking they would really help us. Bahahah! They're talking about section 94(a) contributions and telling me it's 0.5% of construction costs which I've cautiously overestimated. On top of almost $2000 in fees they're now talking about infrastructure funding Can anyone help me with how to get around paying this? I'm aware that there are exemptions and I will look at the legislation more closely but we're essentially not adding any further burden to infrastructure, simply increasing the size of our house and moving our kitchen and laundry. Has anyone negotiated an exemption successfully under similar circumstances? People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. If not then it should be a simple discussion theoretically, though each council will differ in the way that they apply and enforce these contributions. As you've nominated the council as your certifying authority unfortunately they're the ones go you will need to convince! Re: section 94a contributions NSW 3Sep 22, 2013 8:56 pm Just to update if anyone else may be interested... We had to pay the fee but were then advised that we may apply for exemption. Application must be in writing to present our case as to why we might consider the development exempt. If we're not increasing the number of bedrooms then it's considered for exemption. But they like to take the money first, which as we all know makes it harder to get the money back. Gah! People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so.
